Day 5 photos from the 2011 US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach

Coco Ho smiles before the start of her heatDay 5 at the 2011 US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach started out with a short fog delay.

The fog rolled in this morning and we had a delay until it cleared up, so all the heats were pushed back a few minutes. The waves were pretty flat again today with only 1-2 ft.

The two-time defending champ Brett Simpson had a bad heat with little workable waves and was knocked off the 2011 US Open. A shocker for many in attendance.

Like we’ve seen the previous days here at the US Open, mother nature is not cooperating, the competitors have only had 1-2 ft waves with the occasional 2-3 ft. Like most, we hope it gets better this coming weekend for the finals.

Below I’ve added a few photos from today’s event, including shots of Lakey Peterson, Nathan Yeomans, Courtney Conlogue and Coco Ho.
